Where to start? Rewind to late 2012. Christoph and myself met with Stefan Zilch (CEO of Spotify Germany) to discuss the various options of brand partnerships BUT we also used this opportunity to tell him, that the only thing missing with Spotify is a mobile DJ-App. He obviously agreed on this but made clear that he has now global overview of all potential talks on this matter and that Spotify has a hard ruling on 3rd party Apps – way harder than Apple. Back to the future!
Today I am happy we didn’t started another Spin-Off for a Spotify DJ-App as I saw Pacemaker, downloaded it, played with it and fall in love! It’s exactly the tool we dreamed off and in fact it beats our expectations. I am already looking forward to the next gig using Pacemaker. But slowly my friend I am sure you like to hear some stuff.
Connecting to Spotify is easy, you just have to confirm once the App in your Browser and than everything runs smoothly. It took a while to import all my playlists and heavy rotations but I guess this was also due to my lame 1&1 internet connection which hopefully will be exchanged soon for a proper Telekom VDSL entertain pack ;) Sorry got a bit distracted on this one. Unfortunately it imports the playlists to a main surface only – meaning all your sub-folders will be converted in single playlists, in my case this means all the albums are now single playlists. But on the other hand this comes in handy for a quick track access.
For now I only tried the free version and have to say this alone already gives you enough to rock any private party like a pro. The interface is clean, intuitive and therefor easy to use. Obviously a great tool is the SYNC button matching automatically the BPM of your two tracks. You can use up to eight effects like Bass and Treble, as well as a few beat pads for looping and beat-skipping. Each of these effects and adjustments are operated the exact same way — using the spin of your finger on a circle. Another great thing is that you can RECORD your very own Mix simply by pressing the REC button. So now you are able to produce easily a mix for your friends and loved ones like you did in your childhood days with mixtapes.
So for me Pacemaker is a perfect example of my new mantra: „The Future is Now!“.
